Discover St Clare's
Choosing the right education for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make.
As parents, carers, or grandparents, you have a choice – and the right – to offer your child the best education available.
The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle proudly hosts some of the best schools in the Newcastle, Maitland, Hunter, Upper Hunter, Lake Macquarie, and Manning regions.
Catholic schools offer a unique educational experience that forms the child as a person of integrity, compassion, faith, and wisdom. Catholic schools also work closely with their local parish to enhance in students a capacity to make sense of their world, to make judgments, and to recognise the uniqueness of others within a faith community.
Each school has a supportive community of teachers, parents, carers, clergy, parishioners, and support staff who work together to focus on students; encouraging success, promoting discipline, supporting creativity, and instilling compassion. Catholic schools don’t just teach religious studies, they seek to develop spirit, mind, body, and character and cultivate Gospel values that support lives filled with joy, endeavour and hope in the future.
St Clare’s has a commitment to focusing on each individual child’s ability, offering a unique array of educational, creative, sporting and formation opportunities for students.
Finally, Catholic schools offer peace of mind to parents; knowing they’ve made the right choice and the best investment for their child’s future. It is because of this and the many opportunities available to students that we believe a Catholic education is the right choice to make.
WHY FAMILIES CHOOSE ST CLARE’S
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
St Clare’s has established a reputation in the wider community for academic excellence. This history of outstanding achievement includes high HSC and RoSA results, consistent Band 6 results across 18 subjects, multiple distinguished achievers in HSC, and diocesan debating and public speaking and national selection in various competitions. St Clare’s strength in curriculum initiatives is well demonstrated. Graduates from St Clare's are directly sought after by employers and readily gain apprenticeships, traineeships, and cadetships as well as places in tertiary institutions. As educators, we see our role as “getting students to where they want to go”, and as a result, many students can be found in various industries around the world.
STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES
Since late-2018, students have had access to new facilities including 11 classrooms, a revamped library, basketball courts and an amphitheatre to encourage teachers to take the learning experience outside. The buildings combine state-of-the-art technology with innovative internal and external spaces designed to encourage a collaborative approach to learning.
FOCUS ON LEARNING SUPPORT
At St Clare’s, our vision is the creation of a Catholic community that values and nurtures learning for all. The Learning Support department has a strong focus on literacy intervention and expanding opportunities for students who require additional help in reading. This initiative incorporates Macquarie University programs including Multilit, MaqLit, and Spell It. Each program focuses on a different facet of literacy from decoding to spelling, fluency and comprehension. We believe everyone can learn, and we have the obligation to ensure all people are given the opportunity to develop as independent learners throughout their lives.
WE ENCOURAGE CREATIVE PURSUITS
St Clare’s encourages creative thinking across the curriculum, be it design and making in STEM, pursuing high-end Mathematics, extension English or Creative and Performing Arts. Students can participate in the Taree and District Eisteddfod in music, public speaking, dance and drama, and the major theatre production, ASPIRE.
OPPORTUNITIES IN SPORT
St Clare’s offers an extensive range of sports through internal and external programs, including swimming and athletics carnivals, football, equestrian events, all-schools triathlon, rugby sevens and futsal to name just a few. We are proud to have competed successfully in recent years in a variety of state, regional and diocesan competitions in a number of team sports. There have also been many notable individual achievements by our students with selection in prominent teams and in individual-based sports. In the past three years, students have been selected to compete in the Junior Australian Hockey Squad, various Australian futsal teams and the Australian Dragon Boat World Championships. Students have also individually excelled in golf, surfing and rugby league.
