Year 7 – 10 HPE Course Outline

Health and Physical Education offers experiential learning, with a curriculum that is relevant, engaging, contemporary, physically active, and enjoyable and developmentally appropriate. Integral to Health and Physical Education is the acquisition of movement skills, concepts and strategies that enable students to confidently and competently participate in a range of physical activities.

In Health and Physical Education students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to support them to be resilient, to develop a strong sense of self, to build and maintain satisfying relationships, to make health-enhancing decisions in relation to their health and physical activity participation, and to develop health literacy competencies in order to enhance their own and others’ health and wellbeing.

Year 9 & 10 Physical Activity Sport Studies Course Outline

Physical Activity and Sports Studies represents a broad view of physical activity and the many possible contexts in which individuals can build activity into their lifestyle. It incorporates a wide range of lifelong physical activities, including recreational, leisure and adventure pursuits, competitive and non-competitive games, individual and group physical fitness activities, and the use of physical activity for therapy and remediation.

Physical Activity and Sports Studies also promotes learning about movement and provides students with opportunities to develop their movement skills analyse movement performance and assist the performance of others. The acquisition and successful application of movement skills are closely related to enjoyment of physical activity and the likelihood of sustaining an active lifestyle. Students will appreciate the traditions and special characteristics associated with various physical activities and also the artistic and aesthetic qualities of skilled performance and determined effort.

Stage 6 PDHPE Course Outline

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is an integrated area of study that provides for the intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development of students. It involves students learning about and practising ways of maintaining active, healthy lifestyles and improving their health status. It is also concerned with social and scientific understandings about movement, which lead to enhanced movement potential and appreciation of movement in their lives.

Preliminary Core Strands:  Better Health for Individuals & the Body in Motion

Preliminary Options: First Aid, Composition & performance, fitness choices, Outdoor recreation

HSC Core Strands:Health Priorities in Australia & Factors affecting performance

HSC Options: Improving performance, Sports Medicine, the health of young people, sport and physical activity, equity and health.

Stage 6 CAFS Course Outline

Students selecting this subject will be equipped to better participate effectively in a society that is characterised by rapid social, economic, technological, legal, political and environmental change. This course is very popular because it is so relevant to life and living today. It is an ideal course if you wish to pursue a career in teaching, psychology, counselling, nursing etc.
